About Fund Pchyolka
Since Fund Pchyolka was founded in 1997, our primary focus has
been to help orphans in the Kaliningrad region of Russia. We currently
work with thirteen different orphanage facilities.
Babies Homes:
Babies Homes are medical facilities for babies up to four years
old who have been abandoned or whose parents are imprisoned. Most
of the babies get adopted. Those who do not are transferred to an
orphanage.
Shelters:
Shelters are temporary homes for older homeless children who can
stay for a maximum of one year. Then they are either reunited with
family or transferred to an orphanage.
Orphanages:
Orphanages are permanent homes for true orphans or children taken
by court order. Most children in Russian orphanages have been abandoned
by an alcoholic parent.
Internats:
Internats are boarding schools for both orphans and for those who
are not orphans, but are classified as "slow learners".
